We aim to make handwriting an automatic process that does not interfere with creative and mental thinking. The Writing Rainbow is the essential teaching and learning resource for all schools that teach writing using Jane Considine’s systems. The FANTASTICS are used to focus the children's ideas about what can be seen, igniting their senses and broadening their vocabulary. Within the tiers of the rainbow are contained the 27 lenses that form the construct for all writing, both narrative and non-fiction.

You will spend the day learning the system amongst like-minded teachers and those within the teaching profession. You will be armed with the tools and techniques needed to implement the system immediately into your classroom. This allows them to become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. The poster is organised into three tiers to match the ‘Three Zones of Writing’; the FANTASTICs, the GRAMMARISTICs and the BOOMTASTICs.

During the Model section the teacher prepares children for writing by modelling the ideas, grammar and techniques of writing taken from the writing rainbow. This approach supports a systems view to teaching writing that can be applied to any text, novel, picture book or film. Hooked on Books and The Spelling Book, Jane Considine energises and inspires thousands of teachers every year with her unique blend of sparkling effervescence and clear, practical guidance. The grammar rules of our language system and an accessible way to target weaknesses in pupils grammatical and linguistic structures. After they have written their independent piece, their work is marked by the class teacher who identifies different aspects of their written piece to be edited.

We use Letter-join as the basis of our handwriting policy that covers all the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum.Children are challenged to ‘Deepen the Moment’ which requires them to independently draw upon previously learnt skills and apply them to their writing during that chunk. Editing flaps are extra pieces of paper that stick onto their writing and show the additional sentences added into their work.

Following the sentence stacking, children are given the opportunity to show what they have learnt by planning and writing their own independent piece of writing.
