About this deal

There are two main types of thermal imaging cameras. Handheld devices that look vaguely like guns come with a trigger and screen, whilst plug-in camera devices connect directly to a smartphone or tablet. IR Resolution The thermal camera sensor used by the Topdon TC001 has a pixel size of 12μm and a resolution of 256×192 pixels which is higher than the 160x120p resolution of the FLIR One Pro and a bit better than the 206 x 156 pixels of the SEEK Compact. It’s interesting to see that the AGM Glory Pro thermal camera supports the same exact resolution and I do have it available for a comparison. But before that, I also need to mention the 25Hz which goes beyond the 9Hz limit of both the FLIR One Pro and the SEEK Compact, but it’s the same as on the Glory Pro.

This thermal-imaging camera also connects to your phone but provides more resolution (320 x 240 pixels) as well as higher sensitivity (-40˚F to 626˚F) than the Flir One – even the Pro version. And while that pushes up the price, it does make it a great choice for contractors, engineers, inspectors, and others looking for more detailed images. Note: I need to mention that on the left, there’s the AGM Glory Pro, the TC001 being on the right. Since the left footage was slowed down by AGM, I had to cut some parts to make it match with the Topdon TC001. Also, the freezes that you see on the right side are not video cuts, it’s just the TC001 recalibrating. While the FLIR C-Series produces useful images in good light via MSX, this camera can do so at any time, since it doesn’t rely on visual light to boost its resolution. For our money, that makes it the best thermal-imaging camera for night use today. Why do you need a thermal imaging camera? I could rattle off dozens of good reasons, but here are a few uses I've found for mine recently: Temperature Monitoring: this allows you to continuously record the temperature of a certain spot or location and generate a chart with the changes recorded over time. The TC001 infrared thermal camera can perform temperature detection within ±3.6ºF (2ºC) or 2% of max temperature. It can also display surface temperature variations as little as 0.1ºC, allowing users to detect temperature with extreme precision. The main complaints that people have about the module-type thermal cameras include the annoying constant calibration (which is something that happens with the Topdon TC001), the reliance of the USB port, which may lead to the module either slipping out or breaking, and there have been complaints about loss of connection, which I found a bit strange, but possible. The TC001 is not going to fall out of the phone due to both the properly-made connector and the low weight of the module, while the loss of connection is unlikely when it’s done via the USB port.

I assume this is a general policy for all Topdon devices and not everything applies to the TC001. That being said, after accepting the aforementioned policies, I was asked for access to the camera and media, which makes sense, followed by the request that I connect the thermal camera. After attaching the module, the camera appeared as being connected and online (the side LED also started shining blue). Installing the app. The Mobile ApplicationIncludes 10 different color palettes, sharpness and contrast adjustment, picture-in-picture and many other functions. Image enhancement technology makes the field of view clearer and more detailed, and enhances the target recognition function. Getting your hands on the best thermal imaging camera is like seeing into the future. An indispensable tool for chasing pesky draughts, underperforming insulation, or thermal bridging, they really do show you an invisible world of infrared heat. Types of IR Cameras Note: the older CAT S61, still available in places, had a lower resolution IR camera, but offered laser measuring, offering an alternative with even more flexibility. The user interface of the TC001 app is simple and easy to use. You get four large tiles corresponding to the four sections of the app: Products are only returnable if unopened and unregistered, unless the product in question is agreed to be faulty, in which case will be returned and replaced with another unit.

At the same time, using a separate thermal camera module allows the device to use the processing power of the smartphone, which may have been too much a few years ago, but not now, when we get specs that rival inexpensive laptops. Also, another advantage is the battery life which depends again, on the phone, instead of a built-in one. The power consumption of the Topdon TC001.

What is it?

Thermal Imaging: accessing this section opens an interface much like that of a regular Camera app on any Android, allowing you to see your surroundings in infrared. Although there are several of us on the team, including me (Adam Juniper), we generally test thermal cameras by using them in day-to-day tasks like inspecting ventilation/insulation, heating equipment (radiators, boilers) and plumbing (hot water pipes and taps). We also test any special claims made by the manufacturer about individual products, as well as the overall experience. The TC004 features a wide temperature measurement range of -20℃ - +350℃. It can also measure temperatures with ±2℃ accuracy for precise temperature measurements. Apart from taking images, the TC001 also allows you to record videos. The advantage of TC001 in this regard is its frame rate of 25Hz. The videos are smooth without any stuttering. Like your TV at home, the quality of the image that a thermal imaging camera produces is measured in pixels, or “px”. Essentially, the bigger the number, the better quality of the image. Although the numbers are tiny compared with a 4K TV, you really notice the difference between budget and pro models. Temperature Range
