About this deal

There are those, such as Will Lord, who thrive on explorations of the most primitive skills such as flint-knapping, hide tanning and traditional fire lighting. I told my wife that in the event of a meteor strike, nuclear war or American-style political divides arriving in Canada, we had be ready to bug out. There are some diagrams but there could do with being many more as, if you're new to the topic, some of the things described are complex to understand. Canterbury's this "one doze medicine" reflected on what I have been collecting as knowledge over the past few years. g., 5 Tool Rule) that everything he carries not only performs one primary thing exceptionally well, but can perform other functions and tasks.

It is was difficult to visualize from the descriptions alone, especially with concepts that were totally new to me. Yes, there are run-on sentences, but it's the points the author is making that's relevant to me, not his poetic prose and grammar. But since I've been watching a lot of Dave's videos on his YouTube channel I've understood a lot better several concepts and how-to's explained in the book.

The book I read was Bushcraft 101: A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival written by Dave Canterbury.

It wasn’t a particularly long section and I didn’t mind learning a bit about the early days of bushcraft survival. Initially, the information provided on frontiersman techniques are impractical to the point of vestigial for the average hiker. This is just the sort of read you need if you are planning a back country trip as it will help prepare you for all sorts of eventualities.

I've been trying to learn how people lived along (not fought) with nature mostly from TV and youtube, latter being the more difficult media to sort out what is "instructive" and what is "destructive".

Dave begins the book by laying out his unique approach to tools and equipment – the 5 Cs – the items that are difficult and/or time consuming to produce from natural resources on a trip. Despite the author’s protest that you can weight the springs differently or use a variety of baits to target specific animals – I wasn’t sold.I’ve found this one particularly useful and user-friendly, with easy to follow instructions and helpful illustrations. This book is a great starting point for beginners in bushcraft like me because it goes over the basic knowledge you need to have for bushcraft. Alles in allem ein Buch, das es gut meint und für Leute, die sich noch nie mit dem Thema beschäftigt haben, eine solide Quelle von Informationen. Yes, Dave, walnut and hickory trees are great if you can find them and the nuts are in season, and so are raspberry bushes, but they're not ubiquitous and the fruiting season for berries is very short. As a camper, I especially liked the author's 4 w's of setting up camp: "Wood", "Water", "Wind", and "Widow-makers".

Once you have a basic kit sorted, the second half the book launches into a basic overview of wilderness skills including, camp craft, fire lighting and navigation. A castor mound set for trapping beaver is perhaps a bit outside of the scope of what this book needed to be. Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors. Bushcraft 101 is a great book from the well known Survivalist and self reliance expert Dave Canterbury. The tools and gear Canterbury uses and recommends aren't cheap, but most of these tools only need to be purchased once in a lifetime. In einem großzügigen Kapitel wird das Jagen mit diversen Fallen und das Verarbeiten von erlegten Tieren beschrieben. If you are wanting to start out learning basic bushcraft and wilderness survival skills you will get a good taste in this book. The most interesting bits are quite fun, such as “insects you can eat and insects you shouldn’t eat” and cooking using your car’s engine. Zebras are those things which aren't common such as famine, drought, disease, war, and breakdown of civil society/rule of law. This is a very good introduction of what you should expect to learn and know if you choose to be out in the wild.
