About this deal

It’s a book where you stand amidst the broken remnants of the dreams that were torn down, in the abyss of pain and suffering, and you create anyway. And they’ll never know just how true to life it sounds and rings, how reading the mixture of Hindi and English, you can pretty much hear that said and what that actually sounds like. Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy. The tenements and the streets are packed with life, and the art is so expressive you can hear the crowds and smell the food cooking in the apartments.

A graffiti on wall, perhaps, is just a way to make other people’s lives a bit better, and it’s all for free. Gillen used to be a music journalist and critic and his obsessions with music can be found most vividly in The Phonogram, a book about loving music, and The Wicked + The Divine, a book about a fan who loves and a critic who’s skeptical becoming artists, creators, themselves. So that comics-as-cinema notion is worth keeping in mind, as we get into the second half of the image above, the Grafity’s Wall 16-panel grid. What makes Grafity's Wall an especially enjoyable read is how all pieces fit together: the art, the characters, the slang, the narrative techniques evoke a very special atmosphere and form a unitary piece of art. The art style was definitely unique and it was a really different story from many others I've read, but I didn't really enjoy it. It was a deliberate artistic decision which will work for a lot of people, but it wasn't always for me. What initially captured my attention was the art, I was captivated with the busy, energetic line as well as a rough, clustered style throughout the piece, that worked so well with the narrative. In fact, the reading experience I had with this comic was so unusual that after 10 pages, I had to step away and take a walk. He likes nothing more than sitting down to eat a good marble omelet while listening to Metal Machine Music on 78 rpm.And it’s not done because the most accurate, detailed anatomical vision of something cannot be pulled off.

The fact that there is such a poetic and thoughtful throughline to this book is just icing on the cake " if the worst thing I can say about Grafity's Wall is you'll be disappointed that it ended, it stands in great company. This is a book about a place and so it has to reflect that place, it has to be about feeling, it has to be about the experience, the sensation over the details, the subjective, not the objective. The reality of it is the fact that it can transcend past whatever the intention, and speak to people in a plethora of ways, now and in the far future, endlessly waiting to be interpreted and reinterpreted. Today, we look at the newly released Dark Horse deluxe edition Grafity’s Wall by Ram V, Anand Radhakrishnan, Aditya Bidikar, and Jason Wordie, with Irma Knivila, Girish Malap and Lizzie Kaye (Editor). The art is colorful and lively but inconsistent and texturally grimy and disorienting, with characters often looking like their faces are melting or distorted in some other way. The same can be said with the girl Saira, who wants to escape from the pervy clutches of Mario and wants to become an actress. It’s not a huge, heavy plot, but it does put things into motion, and we get to see how each character would react to an external stimulus, after we’ve seen about their inner lives.

As the mural progresses, the story gives us glimpses into these incandescent lives, their hopes and dreams both inspired and impeded by the impossible city that they live in. There are all these little things, tiny details that feel absolutely normal to the locale, that will seem bizarrely alien and outlandishly new to some.

The process involves squirting or spraying microscopic dots of pigment-based ink onto high quality art paper or canvas. Since these are fairly standard size prints, it works out better to get the framing done at your end.
