Not much should be expected of bracelets in this price range, but I’m quite tempted to say I really like this one. Yes it has folded end links, a stamped clasp and isn’t particularly resistant to scratches despite being a mostly brushed finish, but that doesn’t make it a bad bracelet. These hour markers also incorporate a generous amount of luminescent material, making the time more legible in low-light conditions. However, the steel bracelet tapers down to 20 mm at the clasp, making the bracelet more comfortable and adding a nice visual detail to the watch. The Orient Kano comes with either a rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet, depending on the model, both designed to fit 22 mm lugs. It is also a screw-down crown, contributing to its water resistance, allowing this watch to be worn at depths of up to 200 meters. ➤ Bezel

Overall, although this bracelet isn’t as solid feeling as aftermarket options that cost as much as half the watch, I don’t feel any less confident about using it for everyday rigours. But if it really isn’t to your liking, the 22mm lug width offers you an abundance of third party options. The day and date window on the watch does not have a frame but is separated from the rest of the dial by a pair of thin lines above and below it. Due to its size, some people with small or medium-sized wrists may not enjoy the sensations this watch imparts. It is not as scratch-resistant as sapphire crystal, but it offers good visibility and is easier to repair or polish. It is also more affordable if eventual replacement is needed.

Then again, for me, the star of the Orient Kano lineup is going to be that blue bezel set atop the 44mm steel case, especially paired to the steel bracelet. It is worth noting that, while the bracelet itself is solid link, the end links are not solid. Probably not a deal breaker at this price point, but something worth noting if you find yourself being a bit rough and tough on your bracelets. It’s not just the big, high-end brands that are on a roll releasing all manner of new watches. Some of your favorite affordable brands are also getting in on that game. In the Orient Kamasu release, the brand teased that it was just the first of their new divers. We didn’t have to wait long until we found out what the next one is – the Orient Kano was just released yesterday. Visually, the case is polished on the sides and brushed on the top, a classic design feature of dive watches. If you have a preference for microbrands, particularly Orient watches, you must be painfully aware that there are not a lot of modding options for their watches despite having similar build profiles to the popular Seiko SKX line. If you want something that looks new on your wrist, your only option would be to buy another model.

The crystal is flat mineral glass. It sits a fraction lower than the edge of the bezel. This may provide some protection if the watch ended up face down on a smooth flat surface.

Maybe you\'re interested: Orient 3 Star (Tristar), the most economical Japanese automatic watch ➤ Dial The Orient Kano is a relatively new model line having only been released in 2019. This watch effectively fills the gap for an updated, larger sized entry-level dive watch. On paper, it seems like Orient just produced a larger Mako/Ray. Its execution however, which I will go through in this review, is what really impressed me. This is not simply just an upsized Mako/Ray and I will explain why in a bit.

The crystal on this Orient diver is mineral glass and is slightly recessed into the bezel, providing good protection. As far as summertime-ready dive watches go, the Orient Kano looks to fit the bill. You’ve got an almost-oversized steel case and mineral crystal protecting that Epson movement (the same F6922 that’s in the Kamasu), with a reasonably-svelte 12.9mm height. This means, particularly on the bracelet, the watch will be ready for some summertime gatherings that are leaning more towards the formal. It also looks like it will be a solid platform to start playing around with some more robust textile strap options as well. The bracelet is all brushed stainless steel. 21.7mm at the lugs tapering to 20mm. The clasp is a foldover with a push button release. There are 4 micro-adjust holes allowing the bracelet to be sized exactly. With one link removed my watch and bracelet weighs 172g. The Orient logo is on the clasp. If you’re one for a simple yet sporty looking dial, this is one to consider. A flat deep green sunburst face and rectangular markers are basically what makes up the dial of this watch. A printed chapter ring continues the simplicity of the design and ensures no alignment issues. At launch, the Kano already came in quite a few different flavours and certain variants have been added and removed along the way. Today this watch currently comes in the following variants: The dial on this watch is simple and easy to read, which is essentially what is needed in a dive watch. The hands are large and sword-shaped, with applied hour markers framed in metal.
